8 Dogs and a BBQ
So the weather has turned beautiful again and to celebrate we decided to have a belated birthday for my sister and sort of housewarming for us.
We had around 20 guests, 8 of which were of the canine persuasion and some of whom had never met before.
To give you a breed run down:
3 Collies, 1 Newfie x, 1 Mastiff x, 1 complete mix up (we think collie whippet…), 1 Labrador and 1 Mini Schnau.
They were little stars all day! We had a couple of small grizzles when they all got far too excited and play began to escalate so they were given a time out and started to relax and chill out a bit more.
I was also a tad worried as we had a young boy come to the gathering and neither of my collies are especially good with kids, but to their credit they were good as gold all day and loved playing ball with him.
It’s such a lovely sight to see adults, kids and dogs all integrating and playing together and I am really proud of all the dogs who behaved impeccably.
In other news, our Collie bitch has discovered that carpet chewing in the new house is as fun as carpet chewing in the old house (uh oh!) so we have been littering the floor with cardboard for her to chew to her hearts content…needs must as they say!
Hope you all had a great weekend too and long may the sun last!

Hi – we had a similar problem (carpet chewing) when Digger was a puppy but found that old school cardboard poster tubes were brilliant – they’re thick enough for them to chew on for a while before going soggy (when we tended to cut that bit off to stop him from having a completely paper based diet!), they were fun for him because they rolled around and we could stuff toys etc in the middle and they were completely free!
Hiya!
That sounds like a good idea! We leave copious amounts of cardboard on the floor but maybe if she could interact with them a bit more (roll around, pull toys out etc) she’ll play with them rather than finding the carpet more enticing =)
Thank you for the suggestion =) I’m tempted to start freezing her kong overnight too to make it a bit harder for her to wolf down in the morning!
