Buy This Invisible Puppy!

1 June 2010 One Comment

So you’ve been searching for that perfect pup to make your family complete…and all of a sudden you find him!

A beautiful, tiny teacup yorkie that is being sold at a *bargain* price of ONLY £700…and ready to be with you at a moments notice…

You contact the seller (undoubtedly on his or her mobile!) who says they can meet you at a rest station on a motorway or arrange to have the pup delivered directly to you…BUT…you have to pay the money first.

Why? you might ask…well it’s to confirm you want the pup and to cover transport costs…they don’t want to send the pup without payment incase you change your mind…

And with your faith in humanity untarnished, you pay the money and wait for your puppy…and wait…and wait…and wait…until finally you realise…there is no puppy. It was just a scam to get you to part with your hard earned moolah…and unfortunately, it worked.

Sadly too many would-be dog owners fall prey to these con artists and lose a small fortune.

My advice is this:

1 – If you find a dog you like, contact the breeder/seller and ask whether you can meet the pups along with mum and dad. If the answer is no, RUN A MILE!

2 – If the seller tells you he can meet you at a rest stop or you can only contact him on his mobile, RUN A MILE!

3 – If you are told you have to make the payment first before they can send you the pup, RUN EVEN FURTHER! Firstly, never part with any money until you have met the pup – you might be asked for a small deposit but a reputable breeder will not ask for the rest of the money until you come to collect your puppy.

Secondly, no reputable breeder will ‘courier’ a pup to you! You are expected to meet the pups, and when your pup is old enough, go and collect him yourself. Anyone telling you they can ‘mail order’ a pup is so full of…well you get the idea, they are to be thoroughly avoided!!!

In all honesty, I would suggest you consider rescuing if you really want a dog. There are lots of beautiful dogs in rescues who are desperately in need of forever homes and rescues only ask a small donation to go towards the upkeep of the other dogs.

Rescues also end up with a lot of puppies so keep your eyes peeled and you might even find an 8 week old pupster who would love to come and curl up on your sofa!

If you do want to go through a breeder, find a reputable one through word of mouth (speak to vets and trainers who often have contacts with lots of doggy people who can give you advice and recommendations) and also through the Kennel Club – and make sure you always see mum and dad and the litter!
