Puppy Flushed Down Toilet

23 June 2009 One Comment

A week old Cocker Spaniel puppy was flushed down a toilet after a 4 year old decided to give him a bath.

Daniel Blair decided the pup was muddy after a walk and needed to be cleaned.

Mrs Blair says she noticed the puppy had gone missing and asked her children where it was.

“Daniel told me it had got muddy so they put it in the toilet and pulled the chain to give it a wash. I ran into the bathroom but the dog was nowhere to be seen. I assumed it was dead.”

His mother heard the dog whimpering in the drain outside and the fire brigade and RSPCA were called but were unable to rescue the pup.

In a last ditch attempt, a plumbing company, Dyno-Rod, were called. They were able to put a special camera into the drain and locate the puppy. They were then able to ease him to the nearest manhole cover and lift him out to safety.

Daniel was upset by the incident and has apologised, saying “I’m so, so sorry. I won’t do it again.”

I am immensely glad that the puppy is safe but horrified that there was not an appropriate level of supervision on both the children and the puppy. I am also concerned as to why the puppy was taken out at a week old when he will not have had any vaccinations and hope that this family also have the mother – puppies should never be removed from the mother until AT LEAST 8 weeks old.

Why do people not teach children how to be dog-friendly??!! Accident and apologies aside. This is just wrong.
