Sugar and Spice and…all things buglike!

27 May 2009 No Comment

Summer is a time when dog owners need to keep an eye on their beloved pets as they can pick up all sorts of nasties. As usual prevention, rather than cure, seems to be ideal.

What nasties am I referring to? BUGS! Fleas, ticks, worms…nasty little critters that can cause irritation – and in some cases, illness – to your dog.

Dogs should be treated with flea/tick treatment and wormed regularly. However, preventative measures don’t always mean your dog will never pick up something unpleasant!

One of our dogs managed to snag himself a tick which has been feasting on his blood and that I daren’t pull out with tweezers as I’m not willing to risk pulling the head off or having a stressed tick release toxins into the dog.

After scouring the internet for suggestions, and speaking to my vet, I discovered this:

The Tick Twister by O’Tom. What a brilliant device!

You slide it under the body of the tick and turn the twister a couple of times. After a few rotations the tick detachs itself from the dog and you can dispose of it accordingly.

So simple yet so effective!

Have a look at their website for more information – they even have one for humans, gross but true!
