Summer and Pups!
Apologies for the long absence in writing. Due to recent, unfortunate events, I have been kept away but fear not, I am back with a vengeance to bring you the latest info in the canine world!
We are currently looking after a 5 month old black labrador at the moment who is sweet as pie and gets on brilliantly with our collie pup – they’ve been charging round like maniacs since the puppy arrived on Sunday.
We’ve had to introduce time-outs as they get a little too manic and the poor lab brought all his dinner up again with all the rushing about.
We have had a bit of an issue with our older collie who seems to have a bit of an attitude with labradors in general and isn’t the most tolerant of puppies either!
However, gentle introductions and keeping the pup ‘out of his face’ seems to slowly be doing the trick.
Walkies is fine and everyone has a good time, but woe betide the puppy that jumps on his bed when oldie needs a sleep. It’s important for us to keep a close eye as, although it is good for pups to be taught ‘doggy manners’, equally, we don’t want the pup to develop a potential collie complex!
I have just been sent a very important article on puppies who are bought by families during summer holidays as they feel it is an ideal time to settle in a new dog.
Please see here.
Please DO NOT buy a puppy if you are going on holiday – it’s not fair on the pup to be taken away from the mother, brought to a new home and then shunted off to kennels or the mother-in-laws whilst the family are away.

And if you do want a dog – RESCUE!!!
There are thousands of lovely dogs needing a new home and a second chance at a happy life. And rescues can help ‘fit’ a suitable dog to the lifestyle you have.
If you do end up with a pup, please take them along to puppy classes. Not only does this benefit their training, it helps with doggy socialisation which is intensely important.
Have a great summer and keep those dogs cool!
